Phraya Nakhon Cave
King Mongkut (Rama IV), who was interested in science, invited guests on August 18 in 1868 to watch a solar eclipse. Two weeks later he died - after he had caught malaria in the marshes of Khao Sam Roi Yot. Also later kings visited Sam Roi Yot, especially the Phraya Nakhon cave. For the visit of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) in 1890 the Kuha Karuhas Pavillon has been built.
Der Name Khao Sam Roi Yot means mountain with 300 peaks. This describes the landscape: Limestone hills up to 605 Meter above the Gulf of Thailand. The western part of the park is dominated by freshwater marhes (ทุ่งสามร้อยยอด) measuring 36.8 square kilometers and you will find mangrove woods along the coast. Inside the park there are two beaches: Hat Laem Sala and Hat Sam Phraya near the park headquarter near Ban Khao Daeng.
