Koh Yao Noi เกาะยาวใหญ่
A short boat ride from Phuket, located in Phanga Bay between Phuket and Krabi, is Koh Yao Noi - "a glowing example of homestay and community-based tourism", writes the Bangkok Post. Read more. And "The Guardian" described it as one of the last of Thailands unspoilt islands. It is inhabited by Thai Muslims, who are living from rubber tree farming and fishing, and has beaches on the east coast, while the west coast is dominated by mangroves. You can rent bikes and do boat trips to Phang Nga Bay or islands like Koh Pakoh, Koh Phak Bia und Koh Hong. Ko Yao Noi is also known by birdwatchers. There are expeditions to watch the hornbill.

Lam Sai Village Hotel: From 800 Bath. A place with a very good Thai kitchen in the middle of a fishing village. No fan, no TV with satellite in the room, many people there for Muay Thai night - you share the local life. And that is not for everybody, as the reviews on tripadvisor show.

Lom Lae Beach Resort: From 2000 Bath. rustic basic thai style bungalows right on the beach, ni aircon, fans in the room. Kayaks and bikes included in room price. A lot of animals outdoor - so for people, who don't fear the noises in the night. With dive-shop. Very helpfuk staff according to quite good reviews on tripadvisor.com.

Coconut Corner Bungalows: Very basic accommodation in small bungalows which have a hammock on the balcony. Bad Taste Bar next door, so you hear the music. Quite good reviews on tripadvisor.com, because the owners take care of their guests.
Koyao Bay Pavilions: Three wooden pavillon facing a large sand beach and five villas. Rice fields, coconut trees, palm trees and rubber trees surround the resort. Each villa has a large sala - an outdoor pavillon with sofas, hammocks; armchairs etc for relaxation. Here you are offered massages. Outdoor bathrooms. Very good reviews - also for the restaurant - on tripadvisor.com
Sabai Corner Bungalows - SHA plus: The smaller huts have external toilet/bathrooms. From "basic" to "wunderful escape": mixed reviews on tripadvisor.com. Some guests complain about noise from a road in the early morning.
Six Senses Yao Noi: Formerly Evason Hideaway. Sea View villas offer great views over Phang Nga Bay, the Mountain View villas are set in lush tropical forests.

Around 8000 Thai Muslims are living on Koh Yao Yai. On the northeastcoast you disocover a some kilometres long beach ending at Cape Laem Haad with coconut palms.

Express- and speedboats from: Phuket (Bang Rong Pier and Chianwanich Pier near Ratsada Pier), Krabi (Tha Len) and Phang Nga. See timetable.
Koh Bele: Small island east of Koh Yao with a tidal lagoon, that is framed by limestone cliffs and where you can paddle into by kayak, white-sand beaches, caves and coral reefs.
